"Sitting On The Devil's Lap" was inspired by some concert poster art depicting the Devil giving a sexy nun a tattoo. Thematically it's a classic nod to the dangerous allure of the "femme fatale" and her innate ability to lead men to their doom. Notably this song features a reference to the Motor City's industrial war effort: "If an idle mind is the Devil's workshop/then my head is his factory floor/ and we ramped up production of my self-destruction/like Detroit in the Second World War".

Lyrics

Sitting On The Devil’s Lap

She had a tattoo of a nun in stockings
Sitting on the Devil’s lap
That ran from her neck to her shoulders
Like roads stretching south on a map
And when you were behind her enjoying the view
The nun looked like her and the Devil, like you
But the Devil was laughing ‘cause you were a fool
To believe her
Oh yeah
If an idle mind is the Devil’s workshop
Then my head is his factory floor
And we ramped up production of my self-destruction
Like Detroit in the Second World War
While she’s out there free I’m stuck in this cell
She’s spreading her wings while I’m going to Hell
But the Devil has plans that I’ll never tell
To receive her
Oh yeah
